La Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU)
Initially developed as a centre of Technology, Art and Design from Manchester Mechanics’ Institution (1824) and Manchester School of Design (1838). Later Schools of Commerce (founded 1889), Education (f. 1878) and Domestic Science (f. 1880) were added along with colleges at Didsbury, Crewe, Alsager and the former Domestic and Trades College (f. 1911), latterly Hollings College. Became Manchester Polytechnic 1992 by a merging of Manchester College of Arts and Design, Manchester College of Commerce and John Dalton College of Technology. Didsbury College of Education and Hollings College merged 1977, and the City of Manchester College of Higher Education 1983. New Board of Governors established as an education corporation under the terms of Education Reform Act 1988. Ceased to be a local authority Institution 1989. Acquired present status and title 1992.

Requisiti
- Dettagli di ammissione: General Certificate of Education (GCE)/ General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) or equivalent, with passes in 3 approved subjects at Ordinary ('O') level and 2 at Advanced ('A') level, or 1 at 'O' and 3 at 'A' or 1 at 'A' and 2 at Advanced Supplementary ('AS') level (no subject to be counted at both levels), or successful completion of approved access course to higher education or a degree from any university in the United Kingdom or Eire, CNAA or approved institution of higher education abroad
